Our Landfall in the Caribbean - Tobago & Trinidad on Jan 23, 2009
PBrush
Tobago is on the upper right and Trinidad is lower left showing the capitol Port of Spain.  The Bocas, the islands leading into the SW portion of Trinidad can be seen on the left of Trinidad.

Tobago, like Barbados, is a windward island that we hadn't visited in our previous treks to this part of the Caribbean.  We had been to Trinidad 3 times.  The sea conditions were always rough and so we had elected during those visits not to bash NE'ward to Tobago.  By crossing the Atlantic, Tobago was downwind of us and it made for a perfect stop / landfall.  Sea heights as we approached Tobago from the NE had dropped down to 1 to 2 meters.  Running in those seas was not an issue, but beating into them would have been a different matter.

Landfall:  Tobago - Charlottesville Harbor  Jan 23, 2009
Our landfall at Charlottesville at the NW end of Tobago.  A sleepy little town with modest conveniences including Wifi, a modest grocery, fish market that sold fish as they were brought in by the local fishermen and home made icecream.  This is one of the 2 check-in points for Tobago, the other being Scarborough located on the opposite side of Tobago.

From Charlottesville we continued on to Englishman's Bay where we spent a rolly night, even after having put out a stern anchor in an attempt to keep us into the swells that bent around the point of the land and left the next day for Store Point of the SW end of Tobago.  Store Point was a planned departure point for our crew, John Buxton and John Lubimir since the airport was in almost walking distance.  We were sad to see the 2 John's go.  They certainly provided great companionship and support during our crossing.  As a final ceremony before thier departure, we promoted John Lubimir from the rank of Swab to that of Mate (Al la the movie Captain Ron.)

Tobago - Store Point Jan 25, 2009
Dakare is located at Store Point on the SW end of Tobago.  Swells were slight coming from the North around Buccoo Reef with the winds out of the NE.
