Anchoring System
Lighthouse Windlass
Features:
 Rated at continuous duty not maximum pull, as with most other winch manufacturers. Maximum pull on an average 12-volt unit could reach 3000 lbs., if amperage is available. No ratchets or pawls to break, no other winch has these features.
 Stainless steel construction; won't corrode away like aluminum winches or rust like steel units. The chrome plating won't peel off like others that are brass.
 The only winch with 3 manual back-ups.
 Can be tailed just like any sheet winch.
 Has rapid manual rewind with use of a standard or ratcheting winch handle in capstan end.
 A second winch handle socket on top of the winch is provided for kedging and allows a maximum pull manually through a 60:1 gear ratio. This means if only 35 lbs. Of pressure is exerted on a standard 10" winch handle in kedging socket, a potential of 10,500 lbs. Is available at the capstan. For example: 35 lbs. X 10" = 350 lbs., 350 lbs. X 60 (gear ratio)= 21,000 lbs., divide 21,000 lbs. By the radius of the capstan (2")=10,500 lbs. On most boats, this could be the most
Lighthouse 1501 Dual SS Windlass
TWO MANUAL HORIZONTAL MODES: Fast rewind socket port & starboard, or an amazing 10,200 lbs., on second speed with only 35lbs. Exerted on a 10" winch handle using the kedging socket located on top of winch. Both manual modes are operated with a standard winch handle. Rope wildcat allows rapid rope retrieval and can be tailed, even under power.
MOTOR DRIVE WITH VERICAL MANUAL MODE: Continuous duty linear power unit, no field winding to burn out. No external grounding required (unit cannot induce electrolysis). No overload protector required for motor. Reversing is optional without changing motors. Motor drive also has a vertical manual backup system. I have used this capability to hoist the anchor painlessly with a Sears hand held electric drill.
CONSTRUCTION: All stainless steel type 316L construction, sealed case lifetime lithium lubrication, mounted to built-in base plate. Complete with chain pipes & cast urethane deck seal.
MOUNTING: Required deck space for mounting plate is L10" X W11.6". Mounts with (6) ½" bolts. Motor mounts under deck and requires only 2" hole.
GYPSY & WILDCAT: Standard cast bronze chromed gypsy & stainless steel wildcat are field interchangeable, port to starboard. Dakare sports a double wildcat and a double gypsy.

Performed 5 year Maintenance: Totally serviced in Spring 2007
Including: Upgraded motor front and aft bearings to high quality sealed bearings, cleaned casing and interior of motor housing. Did not replace brushes as they were in excellent condition, replaced top windlass seal, regreased, Replaced reed switches for windlass counter broken by Summerfiield's during commissioning.

Anchor Pad Eyes and Cleat

2 anchor pad eyes are installed just forward of each of the chain stoppers to physically constrain the anchors for offshore work.

Snubber System
|
Large SS plate supporting 2 anchor snubbers located at the bow approximately 1 - 2 feet above the water line. Secured with heavy duty thimbles, the high load, high stretch snubber line with dedicated anchor claws. Extra large backing plates to spread loads.

 Low center of effort results in less hobby horsing
 Lowers height of chain in water helping to eliminate catching other boats

Nested Anchoring System
The nested anchoring system consists of a Delta 88 and a Bruce 110 mounted in such a way that either can be deployed without contamination, that is, without one anchor being in the way of the other. Either one or both anchors can be simultaneous deployed. There are provisions for 2 built in snubber systems. One of the snubbers can be seen afixed over the Delta 88 in the port picture below.

Example: 58,000 LB boat dropped vertical height of 1 foot --> 58,000 Ft Lbs; Rode length = 150 feet in 30 feet of water; Per Yale Cordage, 5/8 inch nylon has an energy absorption capability of 910 Ft Lbs per each pound of line. 150 feet of line weight 19.5 lbs (.13lbs/ft); Line must absorb 58K/19.5 lbs = 3692 Ft Lbs per pound of rode, which is about 60% of its breaking strength. Actual Load = (Ave Breaking Strength * % of rated breaking strength) = 17000*.6 (Yale claims average breaking strength is 17000 Ft Lbs/Ft) (Note value is listed as 12000 lbs in previous table) = 10,200 pounds. {Experts indicate that line should be subject to max. load of 30% of its breaking strength; 30% -- > 10% stretch of line. 30% breaking strength or 10% stretch --> working load of 1445Ft lbs/lb];
Our case implies that the line will be subject to 3 times the appropriate working load (WWL = 2,700). Increasing scope to 250 feet --> 32.5 lbs = 2215 Ft Lbs/ft or -->40% of breaking strength or 6,800 lbs( 17,000*.4). More road --> nonlinear improvement in load capability; letting out another 100 ft has reduced the load by a third.

Oval Rope Deck Plate for aft Anchor Chain & Rode
We installed an oval rope deck plate on the aft port quarter of the boat for easy deployment of our stern anchor, chain and rode. To improve maintenance of this part we also had it Awlgripped white. The stern chain in contained directly under the oval deck plate and allows the chain to be easily removed through the deck plate from the aft port lazarette.
