Electric Heads
Dakare has two heads, one electric and one manual. We decided to get only one electric head because we wanted to have a fail-safe backup system in case there was a pwer problem. The logic is still valid but we are so impressed with the ease and convenience of use and the problem free maintenance of the Jabsco Model 37275-series designer styled toilet that we have installed, that we almost regret having gotten a manual head in lieu of a second electric head. That attitude is somewhat exaccerb ated by the the high-end Crittenden - Wilcox manual head that we purchased. Shortly after commissioning hte boat, the whole manual head had to be disassembled and sent back to the factory for an internal part replacement. The part had failed becuase W-C had installed an inferior metal part taht quickly corroded and broke. ALthough they repaired the head, there still was the gried of de-installing the head, sending it bakck to the factory, reinstalling, phone calls, etc. On the other hand, the Jabsco unit has been a blessing. We use it almost 100% of the time and after 5 years of constant usage, the only thing that we needed to replace was a seal. Not exactly fun to do but compared to the gried of the W-C head, it was a easy task. We highly recommend the Jabsco Model 37275-series designer styled toilet:

Legal Discharge Diverter Y-Valves - Coast Guard Approved Locking Mechanism for USGC Inspections

Description 45490-Series Y Valve
Y-valves are used to divert sewage from the heads to either an overboard seacok or Holding tank. Dakare employs Coast sanctioned diverter Y-Valves from Jabsco, Model 45490-0000. These Y-valves have a locking position that can be positively locked with a small shackel or lock. We purchased these in the USA because of the Coast Guard approval. We shipped them to the factory and had them installed there as part of the sanitation syste. Maintenance is easy, requiring that the valve be exercised once a month. We carry one spare for emergencies and a maintenance kit: # 45488-0000 which includes all Y-Valves & O-Ring seals and a molded rubber diverter seal. All vlave positions are labeled with professionally made labels.
Wilcox-Crittenden Manual Head
Dakare has one manual heald primary as a safety feature in the odd case we lose power or need to coserve power and choose not to use our electric head. Dakare has the Skipper (Model: 1550-C), top rated by Practical Sailor. At $1110 (not including installation and miscellaneous parts) it is one of the most expensive manual heads available. It boasts a large 4"pump with unrestricted passage to eleiminate clogging.

AWAB Hose Clamps

When the boat was being constructed, we shipped high grade stainless steel AWAB hose clamps to the factory and had them substituted for the normal hose clamps used in the installation of all sanitation equipment. (This was also done for all other compents that require hose clamps.) After 5 years, there is not one hose clamp that has a rust problem and all open and close easily, especially with the handy AWAB hose clamp screwdriver which is custom molded to the screw head of the AWAB hose clamsp.
