Storm Prediction Position - Point of Farthest Approach
The equation below uses vector analysis to predict, given any storm whose initial position is known, the direction that it is traveling and its speed, what evasive directions you should sail or power given your current position, for any storm speed of advance. Note, the equation assumes that the following quantities are variable:
Storm Direction [SD(Angle)]
Storm Speed [SS(Vel)]
Boat Direction [BD(Angle)]
Boat Speed [BS(Vel)]
Other Variables Are:
Initial Separating Distance [ID]
Absolute Bearing between storm and boat [AB]
