We left from Brindisi, Italy for Lostovo, Croatia for an overnight trip. We started out flying our spinnaker but as the day wore on and the breeze died out, we had to take the chute down. We did keep on fishing and we were rewarded by catching 2 tunas during our crossing. When we reached Lostovo, we had to check in with Customs and Immigration. that proved to be a challenge as the wind had piped up and made docking an interesting short handed exercise.
We spent most of the Summer of 2004 plying the waters of Croatia and found time to do an inland trip of Croatia, during which time we tried to find the Krismanich namesakes of Karen's family. We went to the Dreznik Grad, Karen's grandparents home town, and there, we actually found some likely relatives.
The long lost Krizmanic clan
(But was it Karen who was lost?)
After our land tour, we continued heading North. We eventually reached Pula with it great Roman Coliseum, second only to that of Rome. From there, we took a brief trip to Venice while we were in the Northern Adriatic Sea. But that's another story... After leaving Venice and it's cuisine, we started our journey South. He headed, albeit, indirectly to Dubrovnik. That was to be our last stop in Croatia before beginning our journey to Turkey via Greece.
The islands of Croatia run NNW to SSE on the Adriatic Sea.

Double Water Spout off of Miljet Island, Croatia
July 2004
We were told that although water spouts are common in Croatia during the Summer, the location of this water Spout, in the channel between Miljet and the Mainland, is rare.
Yes! This is a Real Picture!

Korcula was our favorite stop in Croatia
Korcula
The home of Marco Polo
We enjoyed Croatia very much. The cuisine is not spectacular and one must be careful about choosing wines, but other than that, it is spectacular. Everything is clean and the relief from petty crime that we experienced in the Western med was a true relief. We encourage anyone contemplating a trip to Croatia to do it.
