We spent a little over a month travelling through Greek waters on our way to Turkey.  We were pleasantly surprised.  The people were friendly and helpful.  The towns were clean and historically and architecturally interesting.  The water was as beautiful as we had pictured it.  The only thing wrong was that we only had a limited amount of time to spend there.  It was October and we were quickly reaching the end of  the remaining of the CY 2004 cruising season.  We were late in the season but this had an unexpected payoff.  There was a signigicant diminishment of yachts and this permitted us to side tie at almost every port we visited and we were able to find space at marinas when we did go to them.  The islands were relaxed without the throings of tourist and made for a delightful experience.

 Grecian Waters

Our course from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Brindisi, Italy to Greece including
the Ionian Sea, the Corinth Canal, the Cyclades and Dodecanes Islands and then onto Turkey

We transited Greek waters late Summer, early Fall.  This is a great time to avoid the powerful winds that plague the Aegean during the Summer months.
During our transit, we only experienced one strong wind and that was well forecatsed..  For that we tied up a t a marina in Naxos with 3 other American boats.
