Rhodes (Rhodos), Greece
Once every 90 days we had to leave Turkey to have our Visas renewed. The easiest way to do that was to take the day ferry from Netsel Marina to Rhodes, Greece. This would take about one hour travel time on the fast ferry (and about 2 hours during the Winter on the car ferry.) Once in Rhodes, we had several hours to kill which we typically used to go to the butcher shop where great cuts of pork were available (unlike turkey) and to the grocery store where Karen would stock up on things not typically carried in the Turkish supermarkets. Old Town Rhodos was very interesting and clearly set up for the tourist industry. None-the-less, it was attrative, clean and chic, sporting many bars and dining facilities ranging from the Greek fast food to upscale restuarants. Although there are various sites to be seen on Rhodes and the taxi cab drivers are more than eager to take you to see these sites, given the lim ited amount of time we would have during our day trips, we never much got outside of Rhodos. The little bit that Dan did (to get his bicycle fixed on our first trip there, gave him the impression of a bustling, newly developed landscape full of congestion and not-so-good architecture.
