The Island of Grenada

Grenada is one of our favorite Caribbean islands.

Grenada 1
The main town and capitol of Grenada is St. Georges.   Of all the islands we visited, Grenadians seems to hold Americans closest to their hearts.  It is a real pleasure to be here.

The spice market has a long reputation of being the finest in the islands, but these days, it is only a remnant of what it use to be, catering to the taste of tourists with beads and bangles as well as traditional island fruits and vegitables.
Grenada 2
We anchored in Heartman Bay on the south side of Grenada.  This is where all the "expensive" waterfront homes are located, and for good reason.  The bays here have excellent protection from the easterly trade winds.

There was a great congenial contingent of cruisers hanging out at the Secret Harbor Resort (Moorings) in Heartman Bay.  Because of them it was so hard to leave .
August is Carnival time in Grenada.  If not as large and boisterous as Trinidad's carnival, it at least has equal spirit.

Be sure to check out 3 of the short Carnival movies.  Can you hear the music?

Grenada is known as the spice island.  Check out the tour of the spice factories, rum distillary, and our cruising buddies in Secret Harbor, Heartman Bay.
