Tribute to Jesse James & Sharon Rose

Jesse, Sharon Rose, their daughter Julia and the SSCA Award

First off and foremost, we would like to say a few words about Jesse James and his wife, Sharon Rose, owners and operators of the "Member's Only" MaxiTaxi service.  I cannot imagine our stay in Trinidad without them...  Our deepest thanks are extended to them for their support  of the cruising community in Trinidad.  We cannot say enough good things about them.  They have contributed greatly to everyone's enjoyment of Trinidad.  We are thankful for the reasonably priced services they provide and especially for the free transportation to Price Smart and other selected sites and for the effort, at no charge, to coordinate and  broker all of our tickets to Carnival events - particularly after supplying countless hours of advice to us and other cruisers on Carnival events in Trinidad.  In 2002, Jesse James was awarded the Seven Seas Cruising Association (SSCA) Camaraderie Award for compasionate services on behalf of the Trinidad sailing community - an award well merited.  For any yachts visiting Trinidad, you will have no trouble contacting Jesse since he is such an integral part of this community.

Crews Inn Marina, Chaguaramas, Trinidad - where we kept Dakare for about 3 - 4 months over 2 separate periods of time (Hurricane season and Carnival.)

Chaguaramus, and particularly Crew's Inn located in Chaguaramus, is a great place to stay in Trinidad.  Crew's Inn has a great pool, Manager's cocktail parties, Thursday night cookouts, Sunday Dominoes games, exercise room and the best marina in Trinidad.  There's plenty to do.

Trinidad is a great place to go on hikes.  The island is a tropical rain forest with plenty of wildlife including hundreds of species of birds, the rare golden Tree Frog and Howler Monkeys.

The Golden Tree Frog in Trinidad.  All we got to see was the sign.

Our Jungle hike in the tropical rain forest took us 5 hours to trek one way
over 2 mountain tops, the highest being Mt. Tocugke, the second highest peak in Trinidad.
We were rewarded by reaching a great water fall with a wonderfully refreshing pool to swim in at the base of the falls...  and did I need that!

Built in 1897, the Galera Point light house is located in the far Northeast corner of Trinidad.  Originally powered by a kerosene lamp, it now uses a high intenity light that can be seen 16 miles away.  Karen can be seen at the base of the lighthouse.
