Our Agenda for the Summer of 2006
Updated 6/1/2007

The Summer of 2006 includes:
(1) Turkey, Israel and Egypt in the Med-Red Sea Rally(Spring),
(2) a return to the Aegean (Summer)
(3) And a trip around southern Greece to Italy (Fall)

New Culinary Delights - Fragosiko
Fragosiko - A succulent fruit of the cactus plant shown above.  We found these high above Nafpolini.  We had heard that they were edible but they did not look to inviting as they have nasty little prickly spines located in clusters all around the fruit.  Later we also heard that if you were to get one of these thorns in your finger, it could be a very difficult and painful experience.
Fragosiko Fruit - After the prickly skin has been removed one is left with the edible fruit (left).  Sliced open, the little green pits can be seen.  These are also edible.  Eaten raw, the taste is somewhat non-descript.  They are very juicy.  For our tastes, there were too many seeds, but overall, we were glad to have a chance to taste these fruits.  They would be a real find for anyone dying of thirst.
